Dr. Pramod Kumar has been recognized in the Quantum.Tech Europe 2025- Hot 10 Quantum’s Most Influential Voices

At QuantLase Research & Development Centre, we take pride in celebrating the achievements of those who inspire us every day. Today, we shine the spotlight on our very own Dr. Pramod Kumar, who has been named among the Hot 10 Most Influential Figures in Quantum Technology by Quantum Tech. This recognition is not just a personal milestone for Dr. Pramod—it is also a proud moment for our centre and the UAE’s growing reputation in the global quantum world. Dr. Pramod’s journey is the story of a true quantum seeker. With a PhD in Laser and Optical Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru University, India, he has dedicated over two decades to pushing the boundaries of laser technology and quantum photonics. Dr. Pramod has taken his expertise across the globe—from India and France to Ireland and the UK—shaping minds and advancing research as a lecturer, research fellow, and visiting scholar across Europe and the United States. At the heart of his journey is a singular vision: to harness the power of photonics to drive sustainable innovation, transforming healthcare, communication, and security for a brighter, more connected future.

Diffractive Phase Interferometry (DPI) device Invented by Dr. Pramod Kumar

One of the defining chapters in Dr. Pramod’s journey was when he invented DPI during the COVID-19 pandemic. At a time when the world was searching for answers, Dr. Pramod invented Diffractive Phase Interferometry (DPI)—a revolutionary laser-based imaging technology capable of detecting the virus within seconds from just a tiny drop of blood. The impact was extraordinary. In less than two years, this innovation not only generated 1.2 billion dirhams but also safeguarded an entire nation. With more than 7 million people tested across borders and community centres, DPI became the key that allowed the UAE to reopen safely, protecting lives while reviving the economy. It was more than a scientific breakthrough—it was a gift of hope when the world needed it most.

Today, the story of DPI is still being written. At the Quantum Biophotonics Lab, researchers are advancing this technology to go far beyond COVID-19. The next version of DPI will integrate multi-dimensional imaging—combining spectral and phase analysis—to create a multimodal device capable of detecting a range of blood-related diseases quickly, accurately, and at low cost. From a lab to research centre, Today, Dr. Pramod leads four dedicated labs at QuantLase R&D, each focused on healthcare, communication & security, renewable energy, and photonic intelligence computing.

Latest Invention - QRDC`s Photonic Intelligence Processing Unit (PIPU)

Among Dr. Pramod’s most groundbreaking projects is the development of the Photonic Intelligence Processing Unit (PIPU)—a next-generation computing engine that could completely redefine the future of technology. For decades, the world has depended on processors built from billions of tiny transistors, switching on and off to crunch data. But PIPU takes an entirely different path. Instead of electricity, it uses light itself as the medium of computation. By harnessing the remarkable qualities of photons—their coherence, tunability, and their ability to carry multiple streams of information at once—this invention introduces a new way of thinking about what a processor can be.

The advantages are nothing short of revolutionary. Because light travels faster than electricity, PIPU can solve problems in a fraction of the time, opening the door to real-time breakthroughs in fields like artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and healthcare. Its design is also inherently energy-efficient, consuming far less power than today’s processors—making it not only faster but also greener and more sustainable for our data-driven future.
Industries transformed—from accelerating drug discovery and powering financial modelling to advancing climate simulations and strengthening national security—all through a computing engine built on the speed and purity of light. PIPU is not just another processor, it is a bold leap toward a quantum-enabled, photonic-powered future—a future where light itself becomes the language of intelligence.

Beyond his titles, Dr. Pramod is admired for his humility and unwavering commitment to improving lives. At QuantLase, he inspires every member of the team with his belief that innovation is not only about technology—it’s about building a sustainable future for humanity.

He constantly reminds us at the lab that true success is not measured by personal satisfaction alone, but by the breakthroughs that create real impact for humanity and inspire the next generation. Through regular seminars, collaborations with leading global experts, and internship opportunities for students, he is building a culture where learning never stops and where young researchers are empowered to carry the torch of scientific progress forward. A core part of his mission is sharing and transferring knowledge—ensuring that today’s discoveries become the foundation for tomorrow’s innovations

His journey is far from over. With every new milestone, Dr. Pramod continues to prove that when passion meets purpose, the possibilities are truly limitless.
